Why FESTAR

Trusted event fire & safety, ready when you need it

Owning extinguishers means tracking service dates, chasing engineers, replacing discharged units and proving compliance during inspections. Hiring with FESTAR removes all of that: one monthly fee covers supply, fitting, monthly inspection, annual service and replacements. Your fire log book is kept up to date, your insurers and inspectors see a fully-maintained system, and your facilities or transport manager gets their day back.

Frequently asked

Questions clients ask us

What legislation makes this our responsibility?
In England & Wales the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes the 'responsible person' legally accountable for providing and maintaining appropriate fire-fighting equipment, signage and a current fire risk assessment. Workplace first aid is covered by the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 and L74 guidance, with kit contents to BS 8599-1. PSV operators (coaches/buses) must comply with PSVAR / Construction & Use Regulations and DVSA guidance, which mandate carriage of suitable extinguishers and first aid kits. Schools additionally fall under DfE building bulletins and local fire authority guidance.
How often do extinguishers actually need checking?
BS 5306-3 (the British Standard for portable fire extinguisher maintenance) requires: a monthly visual inspection by the responsible person, an annual basic service by a competent person, and an extended service every 5 years (10 years for CO₂). Our hire package covers all three intervals plus the fire log book entries to prove it.
Can you cover a whole coach or bus fleet?
Yes — we run rolling programmes for PSV operators. Extinguishers and first aid kits are mounted to each vehicle, swapped out on service due dates, and tracked by fleet number so your DVSA file and operator licence audit trail stays clean.
What's included in a school or office package?
Site survey, extinguisher specification (type and count to BS 5306-8), professional fitting with signage, first aid stations sized to headcount (BS 8599-1 low/medium/high hazard), monthly checks, annual service, replacements and a digital service record. We work around term times for schools and out-of-hours for offices.
What happens if an extinguisher is used or vandalised?
Discharged, damaged or tampered units are replaced free of charge under the hire agreement — you just let us know and we swap them on the next visit (or sooner if it leaves you under-equipped).
